Officials ground breaking

State, county, city and Taylor County Schools representatives officially broke ground on the building site of the new Anna Jarvis Elementary School on Monday. The new school will be constructed in front of the existing building, allowing students to continue learning without interruption, before the old building is razed.

GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — State, county and city officials, along with architects, builders, community members and current and former Taylor County Schools personnel, gathered Monday for a ceremonial groundbreaking at Anna Jarvis Elementary School, marking the beginning of construction on a state-of-the-art facility.

Following the official breaking of the ground by officials, classroom student representatives marked the start of construction by ceremoniously scooping dirt. Each student at the school received a commemorative shovel and took a turn by grade level.

Following the official groundbreaking ceremony, guests were treated to a reception featuring light fare prepared by the Grafton High School ProStart class.
