NEWBURG — Janet Ann (Taylor) Shaffer, 81 of Newburg, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 with her family by her side.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1943, in Newburg, daughter of the late Oscar Ray and Vonda Cornelia (Shay) Taylor.
Janet graduated from Fellowsville High School, class of 1961. She had previously worked for the Preston County Board of Education as a secretary, aide and cook and also ran SS Sport Shop in Grafton.
She was a life-long member of the Shay’s Chapel Church and helped her husband, Don with the Shay’s Chapel Cemetery for many years.
Janet loved her Lord, family, and her fur babies, Serena and Sage. She enjoyed doing wedding cakes, ceramics, watching her birds, and being at the farm watching the chickens and animals.
Janet is survived by two sons, Gregory Kline Shaffer and Christine, Hurricane and Kevin Ray Shaffer and companion, Wanda, Newburg; two grandchildren, Emma Louise Shaffer and Lauren Grace Shaffer; her partners in crime, Delisa Riley and Jeannie Beveridge; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by the love of her life, Donald “Don” Ray Shaffer, 2024; three brothers, Larry Taylor, Richard Taylor and Arthur Taylor; and one sister, Sue Cassiday.
Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave., Newburg, on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 3-7 p.m., and on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Shay’s Chapel Church from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Delisa Riley and Rev. Ruth Hall officiating.
Interment will follow at the Shay’s Chapel Cemetery.
