Game summaryÂ
In the opening minutes of Monday’s game, both teams had trouble getting the ball into the basket.
The visiting Lady Eagles were able to put the ball up to the hoop, but couldn’t get their shots to fall.
The Lady Marauders had trouble finding open lanes to the basket.
The Green and Gold broke the ice first, and that started a big 11-0 run through the rest of the opening frame.
The Eastern defense was able to keep the home team off the scoreboard through the first eight minutes.
The Maroon and Gold offense had a much better time in the second quarter, making passes to get the ball open to the basket.
However, they continued to struggle stopping the visitors on defense.
After Meigs cut the deficit to below 10 points, another scoring run by the Lady Eagles put their lead above 20 points.
One area the road team excelled at in the second quarter were offensive rebounds.
The Eastern girls were able to box out the competition and scoring put-back layups.
The Green and Gold kept the momentum going at the start of the second half, getting four more points before their opponents could respond.
The Lady Marauders also racked up five fouls early in the third quarter, meaning the visitors got two free throws every foul for the rest of the frame.
The Lady Eagles took advantage of the charity stripe, climbing farther up the scoreboard and going into the fourth up by 30.
With such a large deficit, the fourth quarter was under a running clock, ending Meigs chances at a comeback.
