The 2025 West Virginia Mountaineers football schedule has been officially released, bringing major changes to the Big 12 lineup. For the first time since 2013, West Virginia will not play consecutive home games, creating a season filled with alternating travel and home matchups.
West Virginia will open its Big 12 schedule on September 20 with an away game at Kansas, marking the first time the Mountaineers will play in Lawrence in four years. The following week, Utah visits Morgantown for what will be the first-ever regular season matchup between the two programs.
October brings a challenging road stretch, beginning with BYU on October 3, marking WVU’s only back-to-back road games of the season. After a bye week, the Mountaineers travel to UCF on October 18 for a game against the Knights, who recently brought back Scott Frost as head coach.
West Virginia returns home on October 25 for a showdown against TCU, followed by a road matchup at Houston on November 1.
A marquee home game follows on November 8, when Colorado, led by head coach Deion Sanders, visits Morgantown. This will be just the third all-time meeting between the two programs and Colorado’s first trip to West Virginia in 16 years.
The Mountaineers play their last road game on November 15 against defending Big 12 champion Arizona State. This marks the third-ever matchup between WVU and ASU and their first regular-season meeting since 1979.
After a second bye week, WVU closes out its regular season at home on November 29 against Texas Tech, the second straight year the teams will meet in their season finale.
West Virginia’s season kicks off with three non-conference games, starting with Robert Morris (August 30) at home, followed by a road game at Ohio (September 6). The Backyard Brawl against Pitt (September 13) will be WVU’s final non-league game before Big 12 play begins.
