West Virginia Independence Hall (WVIH) in Wheeling is set to host a unique interactive theater experience on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Presented by Live History, a theater company specializing in immersive historical storytelling, "A Knock at the Door: A History Mystery" will take audiences on an engaging journey through time, blending local history with puzzle-solving and live performance.
The event will feature two showings at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. inside the historic WVIH courtroom, each lasting approximately 90 minutes. With limited audience capacity of 30-35 people per show, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a small-group, interactive experience that brings the history of Wheeling to life.
This immersive production takes participants into the past, where they will be enlisted to help solve a mystery. The show incorporates elements of an escape room, requiring guests to piece together clues, interact with historical characters, and uncover a hidden message.
The story begins when attendees receive an unusual invitation from a well-known figure in town. Upon arrival, however, their host is missing. Just as the group considers leaving, a mysterious knock at the door changes everything.
Enter Robin, a former wanderer long forgotten by the town. Once dismissed by the community, Robin now holds an important message and a series of clues that could determine the fate of the missing host. With the audience’s help, Robin must unlock memories and solve puzzles to uncover the truth.
This interactive theatrical experience offers a chance to engage with Wheeling’s rich history, immersing visitors in a story that blends fact with fiction while highlighting forgotten voices from the past.
