KEYSER, W.Va. (WV News) — Among the charges filed against William Blondell Ludwick III in connection with the Sept. 1 shooting death of a Mineral County woman is the allegation that he stole two firearms from a family member.
Recently indicted by a Mineral County Grand Jury, Ludwick was charged with murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, grand larceny, destruction of property, and being a person prohibited from possessing a gun.
Count 1, murder, accuses Ludwick of shooting Emma Westover with a firearm, causing her fatal injuries.
Count 2, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, accuses Ludwick of unlawfully using a firearm while engaged in the commission of a felony.
Count 3, grand larceny, accuses Ludwick of stealing, taking, or carrying away the property of another, placing the value of the stolen property at $1,000 or more. Stolen was a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver and a Remington 12-gauge shotgun.
Count 4, destruction of property, accuses Ludwick of unlawfully and intentionally destroying or defacing the real or personal property of the alleged theft victim by shooting a firearm numerous times at his residence. Damage was estimated at more than $2,500.
Count 5, being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm, accuses Ludwick of unlawfully possessing a firearm, a .357 Smith and Wesson and a Remington 12 gauge shotgun, as a convicted felon with a prior conviction for a felony crime of violence, breaking and entering in Mineral County Circuit Court.
According to the West Virginia State Police, troopers from the Keyser detachment responded to the Antioch area at approximately 2:25 p.m. Sept. 1 for the report of a deceased individual in a vehicle. Twenty-two year-old Emma Julianne Westover of Keyser was identified as the deceased and the cause of death was determined to be a homicide.
The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Response Team responded to process the scene and investigators identified a suspect.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, investigators with the Keyser Detachment of the West Virginia State Police were able to gather enough information to obtain an arrest warrant for William Blondell Ludwick III.
Ludwick was located in Ohio, where extradition was arranged.
