GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — McCauley, James James Keith “Jim” McCauley, 93, of Grafton, WV, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Taylor Healthcare Center in Grafton.
He was born in Elkins on October 16, 1931, a son of the late Christopher C. and Gladys (Phares) McCauley.
In addition to his parents Mr. McCauley was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ava Avonelle (Durrett) McCauley on May 3, 2020; and siblings: Maynard McCauley, Thelma Nutter, and Opal Shaffer.
Jim is survived by one son, Keith A. McCauley and wife Brenda L. of Grafton; two grandchildren: Sara A. McCauley of Morgantown and Daniel K. McCauley of Grafton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jim attended Barbour County Schools and then served in the United States Army. He had many jobs over the years including working in a sawmill, the railroad, autobody work, and sales for Kines Motors in Philippi.
He was proudest of establishing the car wash in Grafton along Route 50. He was a member of the Blueville Church of Christ and was influential in building the fellowship hall and food pantry there.
Jim was an automotive enthusiast and loved working on cars. He was also an excellent marksman and enjoyed hunting. He took many hunting trips over the years to Colorado, Canada, and traveled to South Dakota for 30 years straight hunting ring-necked pheasants.
Family and friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home 950 George Washington Hwy Grafton, WV, on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. with Minister Jeff Tucker presiding. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park.
