WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — First Lady Cathy Justice joined educators and school leaders from across the state at the 2024 West Virginia Leaders of Education Conference, an annual event hosted by the West Virginia K-12 Principals Association (WVPA).
The conference, held this year at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, brings together school administrators, superintendents, and other education professionals to discuss strategies for improving public education. It is supported by the West Virginia Department of Education, Lifetouch, the West Virginia Heart Association, the West Virginia Education Alliance, and Apple, Inc.
“This conference is a wonderful opportunity for our state’s educational leaders to come together, share ideas, and collaborate on solutions to ensure the best outcomes for our students,” First Lady Cathy Justice said during her address on the opening day.
Justice shared updates on her signature education initiative, Communities In Schools (CIS), which provides resources and support for at-risk students across the state.
“I am honored to share the progress we’ve made with Communities In Schools and how it continues to make a difference in the lives of West Virginia’s children,” she said. “I look forward to working alongside these amazing educators for years to come.”
The conference, open to all West Virginia education professionals, offers opportunities for collaboration, professional development, and networking. Recent years have seen strong participation, with more than 130 attendees, including county superintendents and national vendors.
“Governor Justice and First Lady Justice have been in attendance at the conference for the last eight years, only missing to attend to the birth of their grandchild,” said WVPA Executive Director Dr. Mickey Blackwell.
Dr. Blackwell praised First Lady Justice’s partnership with state administrators in developing the Communities In Schools initiative and her ongoing support for public education.
“She has been a friend to children and schools throughout the state,” he said. “Administrators in our association look forward to working with her for years to come.”
