Whether there's snow on the ground or not, the Coopers Rock Foundation is set to host its annual WinterFest on February 8, offering a day filled with outdoor activities and winter-themed fun at Coopers Rock State Forest.

While admission is free, the event serves as a fundraiser to support upgrades at the Rhododendron Campground, helping to improve the visitor experience in this scenic West Virginia state forest.
WinterFest offers a variety of family-friendly activities, with events running throughout the day. Depending on the weather, visitors can enjoy snow-related activities or explore other seasonal programs.
Planned activities include:
- Cross-country skiing with provided gear and instruction – 10 AM to 3 PM
- Sledding (weather permitting) – 10 AM to 3 PM
- Snowman Zone near Pavilion 1 – 10 AM to 3 PM
- Slingshot Paintball Target Shooting – 10 AM to 3 PM
- "Cool Spots in the Cold" Guided Hike – 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM
- Snowman Piñata Smash – Noon
- Winter Tree Identification Hike – Noon to 1 PM
- Kids’ Chasms and Corridors Crawl – 1 PM to 2 PM
- How to Measure a Tree Workshop – 2 PM to 2:45 PM
- Women’s Frying Pan Toss – 3 PM
