Garrett County Commission public meeting agenda set
OAKLAND — The Board of Garrett County Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, in the commissioners’ public meeting room.
The meeting also may be viewed live at www.facebook.com/garrettcountygovernment.
The agenda begins with an introduction to Larry Friend who is the newrly elected mayor of Loch Lynn Heights.
Following that are two updates. At 4:10 p.m., updates on various economic development projects will be discussed. Then at 4:20 p.m., there will be an update on the Arrowhead Dredging Final Report.
Time will also be made at the end of the meeting for public comment.
The next Board of Garrett County Commissioners meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Oakland Town Council agenda set for Feb. 3 public meeting
OAKLAND — The proposed agenda for the Oakland Town Council’s Monday, Feb. 3, public meeting has been released.
There will be an administrative session at 4 p.m. that is open to the public, and the regular meeting is set to begin at 5 p.m.
At around 5:05 p.m., the Oakland Town Council will open a public hearing for an update on the Comprehensive Plan Grant.

‘Coffee with the Superintendent’ set for Feb. 6
ACCIDENT — Dr. Brenda McCartney, Superintendent of Schools, has scheduled a “Coffee with the Superintendent” event from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Northern Middle School in the Community Room, located at 371 Pride Parkway, Accident, MD 21520.
Interested individuals may also tour the building following the scheduled time.
“Coffee with the Superintendent is a way for parents, guardians, and community members to join me for an informal discussion to share things that we are doing well and to let me know areas we can improve,” said Dr. McCartney.
This event is open to all parents, guardians, and community members interested in Garrett County Public Schools. Additional information may be obtained by emailing public.info@gcps.net or calling 301-334-8901.
GCPS Calendar Updates
OAKLAND — The State Board of Education approved GCPS’ request to use Monday, Feb. 17, Presidents’ Day, and Monday, April 21, Easter Monday, as make-up days. These days will now be used as make-up school days. Further calendar updates will be forthcoming.
Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) will also be closed for parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, Jan. 30. These will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., so there will be no school for students on this day. Classes are slated to resume their regular schedules on Friday, Jan. 31.
