Today is the 5th day of February and this month is the month of Love. This date is special for me as I was born on February 5. When one goes back and forth remembering all the things that have taken place in their lives, we need to remember all the times we have received love, we have given love, and we hope we are looked upon as a person who is lovable.
February is “Love Month” when we send and receive Valentines, love notes, flowers and special gifts. We have a special feeling of love within us. Since love is on our minds, I ask these two questions. What is Love? and Are we Lovable? I find these questions more important today as we move through many challenges in our lives and a multitude of challenges around the world. “Love” is the universal language and that is what is most important in our lives and the lives of those around us. We as a nation and all around the world face many issues that may have given us reasons to think we are not loved. I think Love is what is needed all around the world. I think “Love” is to be shared!
What is love? The capitol letter L in love, makes the word a noun and is the personification of love: Cupid or Eros. The word love can be used as a noun and is a deep devotion or affection for another person or persons. Love can be a strong sexual passion for another person. Love can refer to one who is beloved. Love can be a very great interest in, or enjoyment in, or enjoyment of, something: If one uses the phrase, in love, it is an experience of love for someone or something. To fall in love, is to conceive a love for someone or a particular thing. To make love, is to kiss, embrace, etc. as lovers. Loving is to feel love or affection for or to take pleasure or delight in someone or something special. Loving kindness is to show affection or regard for someone. A love is someone who can be a lover of humanity, a lover of a partner, or a lover of something they can be involved with. Love is love in any language. Love is special and should be the number one word to use every day in our lives.
The love that gives us a warm fuzzy feeling in our hearts is called Agape love which is found in the Bible. The Bible tells us that we need to “Love One Another.” We are to love unconditionally. We are to love our neighbors as ourselves. The important rule that many of us forget is to love ourselves. God loves each one of us and sets us apart with our uniqueness. If we do not love ourselves, and do not feel we are deserving of love can we be lovable to those around us? If we do not feel good about ourselves, how are we expected to love everyone else? I remember someone sharing this message. The person said that each one of us should stand before a mirror and say, “God loves me, and I am special.” If I love myself, I can share that love with others. It is important to know that you are loved unconditionally by God and those who love you.
As parents do we love our children? Of course we do. Do we love our children when they misbehave? Do we love our children when they talk back? Do we love our children when we see them asleep? A parent never stops loving his or her child. A parent’s love is unconditional and surpasses everything else. Sometimes parents will correct a child’s behavior and parents try to teach their children how to be kind and loving to others. Unconditional love is what God feels for his children. Sometimes He shows us how to make changes to do better. Everyone makes mistakes but love can be the healing power to make each one of us lovable. God is Love! God loves unconditionally! God loves all His children.
Our world needs love.
This month as you reach out to those around you, think about what love means to you. Ask yourself, am I lovable? Take the challenge to say to yourself that I am loved for who I am. I can always improve myself, but, if I can love who I am, then I can love others. If I can forgive myself, then I can forgive others. If I cannot visit, I can send a card or make a phone call to my loved ones. If I cannot go out to dinner with family and friends for a special occasion, I can send them flowers. If you cannot help in the community, find a special cause and give a donation.
Love can be shown in many ways. Don’t forget to phone your family and tell them you love them. And most of all, do not forget to say, “I am loved.” Even if you are the only person you know, you are loved. Know that God gives us the ability to love and we know that God loves us. Yes, we know what love is and we know we are lovable. Love is a circle that just keeps going around and around. The circle of love can be small or as large as you want it to be. How big is your circle of love?
I leave you with these thoughts. “Love is a fruit in season at all times and within reach of every hand.” – Mother Teresa.
“Love is a wonderful thing. You never have to take it away from one person to give to another. There’s always more than enough love to go around.” – Pam J DeRoy
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend”- Martin Luther King
“Love is like a violin. The music may stop now and then, but the strings remain forever.” — J. Bacher
Remember: Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he or she sees all day.
