Beckley’s first-ever city manager, Michael Resare, has stepped down just 59 days after being sworn into office.

The resignation follows an agreement reached between Resare and Beckley City Council, outlining severance terms and a commitment from both parties to refrain from making negative statements about each other. Under the terms, Resare will receive four months of severance pay, along with an additional month of salary and benefits.

Originally from Arizona, Resare had taken on the role to help lead city operations and administration, but his tenure was cut short for undisclosed reasons.

His resignation is effective immediately, leaving Beckley without a city manager as officials determine the next steps in filling the vacancy. No announcements have been made regarding the search for a replacement.
