CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Alex Mayer will serve as secretary of the Department of Human Services, Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Monday.
Mayer, a U.S. Army veteran, most recently served as chief of Children and Family Services for South Dakota, according to information released by Morrisey's office .
“I look forward to working alongside dedicated professionals to improve the well-being of West Virginians, with a special focus on supporting our most vulnerable populations,” Mayer said.
The former West Virginia DHHR was split into three separate agencies at the start of 2024 — the Department of Health, the Department of Health Facilities and the Department of Human Services.
The governor previously appointed Dr. Arvin Singh to serve as secretary of Health.
Morrisey hasn't yet named a secretary for the Department of Health Facilities.
